Business Owner Tisha Castillo Enters District 2 County Supervisor Race

SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ,– After a failed bid for the interim Pinal County District 2 position, which ultimately went to Apache Junction resident Clark Smithson, long-time San Tan Valley resident and former democrat Tisha Castillo recently announced her intention to run for County Supervisor in the August Republican primary and, should she win, the November election.

This election will be the first time the new 5-member Board of Supervisors will be in place, increasing from a 3-member Board.  Instead of including unincorporated areas from Apache Junction to Florence, District 2 now is centered around the higher density population area called San Tan Valley.

Castillo is the current President/CEO of the San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce. She and her husband Dewayne own MyBizNow.com, a web development and business services company. She has been active in many charitable organizations, including the San Tan Valley Substance Abuse Coalition, Special Olympics, Block Watch, Relay for Life, and is a member of the San Tan Valley Think Tank.

PBHS awarded GVAHEC grant

By Zach Richter Today Publications

Poston Butte High School (PBHS) was recently awarded a nearly $5,000 grant to cover the cost of six Vernier LabQuest Mini Human Physiology Packages to be used for sophomore student biology classes.

The grant was provided by the Greater Valley Area Health Education Center (GVAHEC), which is one of five health education centers across Arizona funded primarily through Arizona State lottery funds. AHEC's connect students to health careers, health professionals to communities, and communities to health promotion and prevention activities.

The grant was applied for by Dr. Mary Ploense Science Department Chair for PBHS who spoke with Today Publications about the grant and what exactly a Human Physiology Package entails.

“We use Vernier Chemistry Packages and wanted to expand into biology,” Ploense said. “They provide relevant software and technology, the kind of equipment kids will use when they go into the workforce.”
